Playful accessories with favorite characters plus fun, functional storage will give you plenty of options, ensuring that your boy’s bathroom design will be an efficient, handsome space.boys bathroom ideas 3One of the first elements to consider when thinking about a boy’s bathroom is color. While there are no hard and fast rules for the use of color in a gender-specific bathroom design, spaces specifically designed for kids often feature bright, bold colors like reds, greens, yellows and blues. The use of color in a boy’s bathroom may also be dictated by the age of the boy (or boys) in question — spaces for younger children often feature more playful, vibrant color schemes, whereas those for use by tweens and teens age up a bit, with more nuanced colors and hues featured. Another aspect of color to consider when planning a boy’s bathroom is the room’s primary intended inhabitant — if he or they have a favorite color or colors, you may consider incorporating those into the design.boys bathroom ideas 4Linens and accessories are a great opportunity to add personality to a boy’s bathroom design. Depending on the age range of the boys using the space, you may want to consider themed accessories based on their favorite TV or movie characters, sports, activities or interests. Many home goods retailers offer lines of kid-specific bath accessories (with or without branded characters) or common kid-friendly themes like animals, nature and outer space. For towels and shower curtains, big, bold prints are available featuring all of these themes; they can be a great way to add style and humor to a boys bathroom (shower curtains in particular are available in a wide range of fun and funny aquatic themes).boys bathroom ideas 5Storage is a key aspect of any bathroom design, and it’s particularly important when it comes to kids’ bathrooms. Though there are surely kids out there who are meticulous, organized and exceedingly neat, they’re a rare species. Most kids struggle with keeping any space — let alone one where they bathe, wash and brush — spic and span. Bathroom organizers for toiletries and accessories can go a long way toward keeping things tidy in a boy’s bathroom, separating and categorizing the various components of bathroom use and for easy access and — maybe, with any luck — return.boys bathroom ideas 6When we moved two and a half years ago, my plan was for the boys to exclusively use their own bathroom upstairs.  Then we needed to potty train Owen, and it wasn’t reasonable to ask a 3 year old to run upstairs every time.  If your house layout allows for a hall bath that your boys don’t touch, I think I’d go for it…boys bathroom ideas 7Our downstairs bathroom has been smelling AWFUL lately.  Since Janie was born, we have not cleaned the floors nearly as often as we should, although the bathroom does get cleaned once a week.  This past weekend, we gave the bathroom a total overhaul!boys bathroom ideas 8Number one on this list should be: “Make a rule that everyone sits to pee, including boys of all ages.” I have several boys, and in my house, we have always had this rule. It makes a huge difference. When they are at a public rest room, they can stand if they want. But at home, everyone sits. I follow the same rule myself. Any guy who has ever stood while peeing and wearing shorts knows that this causes small droplets to splatter out of the toilet. You can feel them hitting your legs. This also means that they are hitting the floor and walls around the toilet.boys bathroom ideas 9I know your pain. I had 5 boys plus my husband (even the pets were males). When you are toilet training, use a floating ring and have them aim for that. If you can teach them to sit, it makes for good manners when you are visiting someone’s home that doesn’t have kids or boys. Also, teach them to put the sit down when they are down, so mommy doesn’t fall though in the middle of the night.boys bathroom ideas 10Wallpaper is another decorative element that can capture a fun, kid-friendly spirit in a boy’s bathroom, featuring nature scenes, sports or beloved characters. Artwork is another great option here, whether themed to the interests of the boys in the home, more abstract, or featuring favorite photos of family members.boys bathroom ideas 11Earlier this year, I would walk past the guest bath and I would be overcome with the smell of urine. Even after cleaning the bathroom from top to bottom, the stench wouldn’t go away. I finally realized one if my boys (or on of their friends) had pee’d on my shower curtain! Lol. I will be using these suggestions regularly.boys bathroom ideas 12He have seven boys and we had a serious problem with stink. We thought it might be grout in the tile floor. One day I decided I was going to tackle this problem head on. In the end, I found that the problem was one simple thing. We had (past tense) the toilet seat pictured above in this post with the plastic attachments. What I found is that the plastic attachment screws were RANK! I mean seriously rank! Somehow the plastic had absorbed the smell. I replaced the toilet seat (using one with metal bolts) and the problem pretty much disappeared instantly! So, if you have one of those seats, get rid of it! You’ll be much happier when you enter your bathroom.boys bathroom ideas 13Getting Rid of Boy Bathroom Stink — A much needed discourse about an issue that few dare to tackle, with a recipe that will accomplish the de-stinkification — by my friend Sarah, who has four boys.  So she ought to know, y’all.boys bathroom ideas 14Before we started using this homemade cleaner, our bathroom really stunk.  Then I would clean it.  Then it would smell like chemicals covering up a urine stench.  One day we mopped the floor with this homemade cleaner, and the bathroom smelled… fresh!boys bathroom ideas 15Yes, the idea is to design a fun bathroom. But it is also to ensure that it is still a safe space for your kids and that none of them end up injuring themselves just because you did not plan for certain situations well ahead. Beautiful mirrors, cool customized accessories with your kid’s name on them, a fun work of framed art maybe painted by them can all help in creating an individual look without having to turn the entire bathroom inside out.
