Rated 5 out of 5 by CMP3 from Fabulous Teak Bench We needed a bench to put in our shower, and looked at many options. I have been impressed with the quality of Frontgate products purchased in the past, and was pleased to see options for the bench. After reading the online reviews, we decided to order the bench with shelf; we like the small bars in either side of the bench to hang face towels too. The reviews indicated there would be no assembly required, and they were absolutely correct. The bench came in one lovely piece, packaged in a way that prevented any damage, and so it was immediately usable out of the box. The only problem now is that my husband thinks it is so beautiful he doesn’t want to put it into the shower! But into the shower it will go, and we are really happy we found it. Date published: 2017-02-28If a built-in bench would take up too much room, consider a teak fold-up bench. A plastic bench says “hospital,” while teak says “spa.” Tip: When shopping for a fold-up bench, be sure to check the dimensions and the maximum weight capacity. Benches range from 18 to 24 inches wide with a seat depth of 13 to 16 inches.Rated 5 out of 5 by sailorgal from Exceeded expectations! When I opened the package and examined our new shower bench, it actually exceeded my expectations. It is heavy and comes fully assembled. I was concerned about getting up and down off the bench. It’s just the right size and it’s easy to push up off the side frames without feeling “tippy”. We already have the corner teak shelf tower and the bench is perfect for our new tiled shower. We wanted these separate units for flexibility. Again, Frontgate met or exceeded our expectations. Find a bathroom designer near you.Furniture made of teak lasts several years. Even when used in the bathroom, teak has a remarkable long life span. That is due to the high resistance to water of the wood. The tropical hardwood is also rot resistant. Additionally, the hardwood is rich in natural oils that gives it a high resistance to bugs, which makes it ideal for the often humid bathroom environment. For a small shower where you don’t want to have the seat permanently taking up much-needed floor space, consider a folding bench, which runs a few hundred dollars. As with a grab bar, you’ll want to make sure a folding bench is securely attached to the wall. With time, teakwood changes from its natural honey color to a silver-gray color due to the patina. If the wood isn’t treated, the silver-gray color deteriorates to a greenish look that some find unattractive for wood. To prevent these extreme color changes, sand the surface and apply oil treatments periodically. The bench must be completely dry before you apply oil treatments. That may mean doing without your bench for several days, which may be an inconvenience.Teakwood is one of the strongest hardwoods you can select for your furniture needs. It does not easily chip, splinter, or crack. Due to its strong properties, teakwood has been one of the top choices of wood in the boating industry. Teakwood can make you a stable and comfortable shower bench that will last you a lifetime.
